It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the website for the HMC/SickKids Partnership Project.

This website will provide you with information regarding the HMC/SickKids Partnership and will highlight our aims and objectives, describe our 14 Task Forces, our future events, and our education sessions. You will also find a link to our E-Magazine ‘Children First’ which showcases the excellent work the pediatric clinical teams are leading on.

This project supports Qatar’s National Vision for 2030, launched by the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani in October 2008:’developing an integrated system for healthcare, managed according to world-class standards that will meet the needs of existing and future generations’. Our partnership with SickKids International demonstrates Hamad Medical Corporation’s commitment and dedication to delivering excellent pediatric healthcare services in Qatar.

Our primary focus is on developing pediatric clinical programs, developing our staff through education and training and developing Child Health Research in Qatar. Building sustainability is our aim and the achievement of this will be through knowledge and skill transfer.

I hope you find the website of value, please feel free to provide us with feedback.

Message from Ms. Cathy Seguin - SickKids Project Director

Cathy_Seguin_Welcome

It is with great pride that I reflect on what The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has achieved since the partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) began in 2010.

As Canada’s leading paediatric health sciences centre, SickKids is an innovator in improving children’s health locally and globally in the areas of care, research and learning.  As this website details, we have been working diligently to accomplish this through our work in Qatar.

Providing expertise in pediatric medicine, peri-operative services, inter-professional practice, education, family-centred care, support services and research, our staff and their colleagues from HMC are influencing change at the national level that will lead to better health for the nation. SickKids is the first Canadian hospital to have a partnership in the Middle East. It has been a tremendous learning experience as well as an opportunity to take our learning beyond the walls of SickKids, Ontario and Canada.

Our staff have been highly engaged and motivated by our partners whose goal is to be the best pediatric centre in the Gulf. Our work in Qatar is helping to fulfill our vision of improving children’s health globally and directly impacts the work we do at SickKids. SickKids International’s innovative business model means that we are able to support strategic initiatives at SickKids, increasing our own capacity to provide high-quality care. Finally, I would like to thank our project teams at SickKids and in Qatar, and the SickKids staff who have generously shared their knowledge, skills and expertise. Our success is a source of pride to the province of Ontario and Canada.

Ms. Cathy Séguin
Project Director, SickKids International
